Our History
Established 2004
2002
The idea for a local netball club in Branxton began in 2002, when community members identified the need for public netball courts and better access to the sport. At the time, Greta had privately owned courts that limited opportunities for the wider Branxton community.
Later that year, a group of passionate locals met to discuss forming a new club that would provide accessible netball for families in the area. From that meeting, the decision was made to establish Branxton District Netball Club.
2003
A small founding committee was formed, including the inaugural Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Officer, who guided the club through its first steps. BDNC held its inaugural Annual General Meeting on 24 November 2003, where the first official committee was elected, including the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Registrars. Many other volunteers also contributed during these early years, helping shape the club’s direction and identity.
2004
In 2004, BDNC entered the Cessnock competition for the first time. With no home courts yet available, teams trained at temporary locations across Branxton until construction of the Branxton netball courts was completed later that year. The new courts quickly became a hub for training, school groups and local competitions, a major milestone that set the foundation for the strong, community‑focused club BDNC is today.
2023
In 2023, BDNC secured funding to construct two additional courts and install new lighting, an upgraded speaker system, grandstands and a water filtration unit. These facilities were officially opened later that year, marking another milestone in the club’s growth.
2026
By 2026, BDNC proudly fielded 29 teams in the Maitland District Netball Association, representing 283 players, 33 coaches, 11 assistant coaches, 34 team managers and 14 committee members. It was one of the club’s biggest seasons yet, reflecting the incredible growth and dedication of the Branxton community.
BDNC continues to thrive thanks to the commitment of its players, volunteers and supporters. Every season is built on the hard work of those who came before us, and we remain grateful to everyone who has helped shape the club into what it is today.
